News from Friends of the City Churches
Annual City Churches Walk 2005 Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th June Our Annual City Churches Walk will again provide an opportunity to explore many of the City
Churches, including a large number of the surviving churches rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren in the aftermath of the Great Fire of 1666.
The Walk will appeal to all those with even a passing interest in this wonderful collection of historic churches to be found in the
Square Mile. Reception for Walkers will be at the Church of St Mary Aldermary, Bow Lane, EC4 Charges: One day: £8 Two days: £12 There is a reduction of £2 if you join as a member of the Friends (£15 annual subscription) at the time of booking. Book on-line or come on the day at 10am. All Walkers who register in advance or on the day will receive a registration pack, which will include a map showing the location of all the City Churches together with concise information on each of them, to allow planning of your visits. On reporting at the Church of St Mary Aldermary, you will receive an up-to-date list of the churches open on the days of the Walk together with opening times. On both days there will be a number of optional guided tours led by members of the City of London Guide Lecturers Association who provide their services voluntarily in support of the City Churches. The morning tours will start at 10.30am. The afternoon tours will start at about 2.00pm. Details of the itineraries will be provided on the days of the Walk. [Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide these details in advance as we are unable to finalise the list of churches that will be open until a few days before the Walk]. All registered participants in the Walk are entitled to join any of that days guided tours. Those walkers who do not wish to make use of the guided tours can, of course, make their own way round the churches. Refreshments will be available at the Church of St Mary Aldermary on both days. On Wednesday 8th June, the Walk will finish with a Concert. This too will be held in the Church of St Mary Aldermary. Tickets will be available for £5: payable in advance or at the door. Doors open at 4.00pm, with the concert beginning at about 4.30pm and lasting for about 1¼ hours. Enjoy yourself!
